A meeting of the European project: Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) was held in Italy last month at the location of our partner Feralpi. Interesting discussions and conclusions were achieved during this meeting where Sapotech experts Juha Roininen and Paavo Hooli participated. One of the achievements of this project is the findings presented by Dr. Hooli during ICS2018. In this paper it is explained how Reveal CAST can help the surface quality inspection of hot slabs and predict the continuous caster maintenance needs.
This project started last year and it aims to develop online-monitoring systems and numerical models for defects identification in the steel casting process. This will support operators in their decisions, and ultimately enhance process control and productivity.
